Min calls for localizing Chinese telecom equip production in Russia

MOSCOW, Jun 13 (PRIME) -- Russian Digital Development Minister Konstantin Noskov has suggested localizing manufacture of Chinese telecom equipment, including for 5G networks and the Internet of Things, the ministry said late Tuesday in a statement.

“Russia’s market is quite large when it comes to demand for telecom equipment for construction of 5G networks and the Internet of Things, and partnership of countries in this segment is promising. However, main demand will be determined by Russia’s internal market, where preferences to local manufacturers, products, and solutions will be legally introduced,” Noskov said at talks with Chinse Industry and Information Technology Minister Miao Wei.

The project will reduce risks of dependence on other foreign suppliers and will shape a scientific and technical base for development of new technologies and products.

Noskov offered his counterpart to consider transferring manufacture of equipment to Russia and to discuss the matter in detail in September at a meeting of the bilateral sub-commission on connection and IT.
